Southern Bay Sailors

Go To Calendar View

The second order of business was to establish a cruising schedule for 2009. The outings are currently planned by month only. We will firm up the exact date sometime in January. The goal is to complement, not compete, with other clubs and functions on the Bay. Next year is going to be exciting; I know we are going to have a great time sailing as a club

April Season Kickoff and Get Together

PDX Bar and Grill, Bay Point Marina, Norfolk. Just opened this summer. $1.00 beer need I say more? (Need Cruise Captain)

May East River Anchoring Drill This is a quick sail to Mobjack Bay for most of our members and will be a good time to shake out the winter cobwebs. This anchorage is my personal favorite (Need Cruise Captain)

June Willoughby Bay Weekend Spend an afternoon, an evening, or an overnight. You can anchor out, raft up, or tie up at Willoughby Bay Marina and commute by dink to the party. Come for the day or spend the night. Always a crowd pleaser (Need Cruise Captain)

July River Walk Landing This is pier side at Yorktown. The water is too deep with too much current to anchor, but the large concrete floating docks are perfect for pulling some deck chairs in a circle to chew the fat or salt tack depending upon taste. (Need Cruise Captain)

August Bay Creek Marina Can you say Party? Lets party, sail and race in the Cape Charles Cup. Many of us are not serious racers, and we can have our own HSA-SB subcategory with ratings and prizes. Just remember, Chip used to teach sailing at the Naval Academy (Need Cruise Captain)

September Severn River Another trip to Mobjack Bay. You can anchor or go pier side here. They have a good place by the marina office to hold a party or cookout. I smell charcoal!!! (Need Cruise Captain)

October Some ideas what do you think? - The Great Canal Loop. Do the Dismal Swamp and Albemarle and Chesapeake canals. - Warwick Yacht Club on Deep Creek. They take transients and there is room to anchor. - Sarah Creek off the York Anchor or tie up

(Need Cruise Captain)

As you see, it is going to be a busy summer but, to make it a success, we need CRUISE CAPTAINS. The budget was discussed, and this year the treasury has enough depth to provide up to $50.00 re-imbursement to the Cruise Captain to help defray expenses. Did I say we need CRUISE CAPTAINS?
